Ranthambhore Marathon

5 Nights | 10 Safaris | Start & End: Jaipur

The trip

Some forests reveal themselves quickly. Ranthambhore is not one of them.

Some forests reveal themselves quickly. Ranthambhore is not one of them.

The longer you spend here, the more you begin to understand why this reserve has become one of the most celebrated tiger destinations in the world. Five nights and ten game drives allow you to move beyond simply searching for a tiger. You begin to recognise territories, understand animal behaviour and appreciate how every lake, valley and ancient ruin forms part of a much larger wilderness.

Ranthambhore is unlike any other national park in India. Rising above the forest is the magnificent Ranthambhore Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has stood watch over these forests for nearly a thousand years. Ancient temples, crumbling hunting pavilions and forgotten gateways now belong to the jungle, creating landscapes where history and wildlife exist in remarkable harmony.

The reserve has earned its global reputation through its tigers. Generations of legendary cats have walked these forests, each with its own story. From the famous Machli, often regarded as the world's most photographed tiger, to the many dominant males and territorial females that roam the reserve today, Ranthambhore continues to produce some of India's finest tiger sightings.

Yet the longer you remain in the park, the more your focus naturally widens. Massive Sambar stags stand knee-deep in the lakes at dawn. Marsh Crocodiles lie motionless along the water's edge. Leopards patrol the rocky ridges while Sloth Bears quietly forage through the dry forests. Every safari reveals another layer of this remarkable ecosystem.

Ten game drives provide the luxury of time. There is no pressure for every safari to deliver the perfect sighting because each drive contributes to the larger experience. Some mornings may be filled with alarm calls and fresh pugmarks, while others are remembered for the silence of Rajbagh Lake, the call of a Crested Serpent Eagle or the changing light on the ancient fort walls.

By the end of this journey, you are unlikely to remember only the tigers. You will remember the atmosphere, the anticipation, the stories shared around the dinner table and the feeling of becoming, if only briefly, a part of Ranthambhore itself.

This is a fixed-date group departure: the dates, your lodge, two safaris a day and your instructor are all set. You simply reserve your seat — ideal for solo travellers and small groups who want a great trip without the planning. Between drives there's time to rest, review photos, and swap notes over chai with your naturalist.

The route, stop by stop

Day 1 · Day 1, Arrive Jaipur, Transfer to Ranthambhore, Evening Safari

Day 1, Arrive Jaipur, Transfer to Ranthambhore, Evening Safari

Arrive at Jaipur Airport where you will be welcomed by the Beyond Wild team before beginning the drive to Ranthambhore National Park.
After checking into your jungle resort and enjoying lunch, there is time to relax before your first game drive.
Your opening safari is about becoming familiar with the landscape. Dry Dhok forests, open lakes, towering cliffs and ancient ruins create a dramatic introduction to one of India's most iconic wildlife destinations. Return to the resort after sunset for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 · Days 2 to 5, Ranthambhore, Morning and Evening Safaris

Days 2 to 5, Ranthambhore, Morning and Evening Safaris

The next four days are devoted entirely to exploring Ranthambhore.
Each morning begins before sunrise as the forest slowly awakens. The cool air carries the calls of peafowl and langurs while fresh tracks on the sandy roads often reveal the night's activity. Every drive takes you into a different part of the reserve, each with its own personality and resident wildlife.
Between safaris, return to the lodge for breakfast, lunch and time to relax before heading back into the forest during the late afternoon, when wildlife once again becomes active.
Over the course of ten safaris, you begin to appreciate that no two drives are alike. A tiger resting beside a lake, a leopard disappearing into rocky terrain, a Sloth Bear crossing the road or simply watching Sambar feeding beneath the fort walls all become part of a much richer experience.
By staying longer, you allow the forest to set its own pace. The result is a safari that feels less hurried and infinitely more rewarding.

Day 6 · Day 6, Final Morning Safari, Departure to Jaipur

Day 6, Final Morning Safari, Departure to Jaipur

Enjoy your final morning game drive, taking in the familiar sights and sounds of Ranthambhore one last time.
After breakfast, check out of the resort and drive back to Jaipur Airport, carrying home unforgettable memories of one of India's greatest wildlife landscapes.
